Lady Gaga brings signature over-the-top style, familiar hits to Roseland Ballroom’s final shows

WATCH OUR GIFT FOR LADY GAGA's 28th BIRTHDAY HERE

Lady Gaga’s one-hour set featured six outfit changes and more old hits than new, from ‘Just Dance’ to ‘Bad Romance’ to ‘Poker Face.’ The selection was appropriate for the history-making night, which was the first of seven Gaga shows that are fated to be the final performances at the venue.

Lady Gaga led the last dance at Roseland on Friday.
Before a sold-out house of 3,200 fans, the club-friendly star performed the first of seven shows, fated to be the final performances at a hall that has endured in the city for nearly 100 years.
Naturally, Gaga dressed for the occasion — in six different ways, no less.
At the start, she appeared in a hat adorned with blue roses, fashioned into thick horns. Beneath her weighty crown, Gaga’s hair flowed Mermaid-long down a getup that made her look like a gargoyle trapeze artist.
Despite the whimsical couture, she opened with an extremely earnest take on “Born This Way,” recast as an overwrought ballad, with her seated at the piano.
“I love the Roseland,” she shoe-horned into this song of self-acceptance.
Gaga didn’t stay seated long. Her brief, and snappy, one-hour set favored metal-studded disco songs, fleshed out by a ham-fisted five-piece band. Along with 11 stately dancers, Gaga shuttled between several rose-covered risers, plus a second stage adorned with a fixture of her live shows: a replica of an F Train subway car.
It made an appropriately local backdrop for Roseland. While this long, narrow venue may be cursed with fractured acoustics and compromised sight lines, Gaga’s sense of occasion gave the place a last gasp of life. She referenced the setting in outfits anointed with purple or red roses. She, likewise, festooned her portable keyboard with the ruby flower.
Appropriate to such a history-minded event, Gaga featured more old hits than new, from “Just Dance” and “Bad Romance” to “You & I” and “Poker Face” (also reconfigured as a ballad).
Her fresh songs, from “Applause” to “G.U.Y.,” don’t vary much from the most familiar ones. However catchy they all may be, they’re over-indebted to tacky dance and rock styles held over from the ’80s. Think Laura Brannigan backed by Meatloaf.
The night also marked Gaga’s birthday (her 28th), which she celebrated as her parents gazed at her from the balcony.
The brevity of the show couldn’t help but give it a certain perfunctory feel. Certainly, it couldn’t compete with that vomit stunt from her recent South By Southwest appearance.
Perhaps it did enough, though, by simply mirroring aspects of Roseland itself. They’re both a bit gaudy, a tad focused on the past, yet each a part of the pop fabric.
Lady Gaga plays Roseland again Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and April 4th, 6th and 7th.

Lady Gaga rocks week's worth of crazy outfits leading up to birthday, Roseland Ballroom performances

The singer, who turned 28 on Friday (watch our gift for her HERE), showed an uptick of creative costumes while she was out in Manhattan this week.

Someone is getting sick of dressing for wintry weather.
Lady Gaga showed an uptick in crazy costumes while she was out and about in Manhattan this week.
Her one-of-a-kind outfits ranged from a voluminous alien-chic ensemble, complete with spike-soled platforms to a charcoal leonine getup and a “Jetsons”-style dress with visor and white sneakers.
Gaga, who turned 28 on Friday, strutted a sparkly, fuchsia suit and UFO saucer hat to talk to 92.3 NOW about her newest gig.
She will perform for the closing of the 95-year-old Roseland Ballroom with a seven-night residency, starting Friday.
She will need a lot of outfits, so consider this a preview.

'The best bday ever!' Lady Gaga brandishes rose-adorned keytar for birthday concert at Roseland Ballroom

She declared Friday 'the best bday ever!'
And Lady Gaga - wearing a bright red leotard - opted to celebrate turning 28 by kicking off her seven-night residency at the Roseland Ballroom in New York.
'Time to give Roseland the goodbye it deserves, with all the roses in NY!' she tweeted to her 41.1 million followers. 'ITS SHOWTIME BABY!'
The outlandish pop diva brandished a rose-adorned keytar onstage the 52nd Street theatre, which will soon close its doors after 56 years.
The five-time Grammy winner is the final performer to take the stage at Roseland before its transformed into a 59-storey residential tower.
'It's basically the only room in the city I haven’t played,' Gaga told The New Yorker, noting that Manhattan clubs are 'where I learned to be bold.'

Lady Gaga Takes Stage For First Of 7-Night Run To Close Out Roseland Ballroom

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — New York native Lady Gaga kicked off her seven-night homecoming run at the Roseland Ballroom Friday night.
The iconic New York City venue is closing its doors for good once Gaga’s performances are through on April 7, 1010 WINS’ Carol D’Auria reported.
Roseland Ballroom opened at its first location on West 51st Street in 1919. Then in 1956, the venue moved to West 52nd Street with the likes of Madonna, Beyonce, and The Rolling Stones gracing its stage over the years.
Gaga said Roseland was a place her mother didn’t want her to go to, but New York’s home-grown star went anyway, D’Auria reported.
Most of Gaga’s little monsters (her fans) weren’t concerned about the venue’s history, just the music.
“She’s a really great performer. Very talented. Singing, dancing, all of it,” said fan Susan.
Fan Allen said Gaga has enough talent to give Roseland a classy finish.
“She plays several different instruments. She can play the piano, the guitar, sings, dances. A little of everything.”
But Kevin, who is not only a Gaga fan but also a Roseland fan, said the venue has “great acoustics and it’s a shame that the building is gonna be torn down and put into a high-rise. A lot of great memories here.”
Another fan, Ian, told D’Auria a lot about Roseland’s rich history.
“This is an old ballroom. They used to charge 11 cents a dance and have bouncers called house boys that would stop people from getting out of hand,” Ian said.
After Roseland closes, it will eventually be replaced by apartments.

Lady Gaga reveals artRAVE: The ARTPOP Ball Tour stage design

Lady Gaga has finally revealed the set design of her upcoming ARTPOP Ball stage. The performer is set to start her tour on May 4th, in Florida.
Gaga’s sets are always extravagant, featuring amazing construction, technology, and visual spectacles. For her last tour, the set involved a castle which transformed to reveal her band, with a circular catwalk. It looks like she’s taken things even further for this tour.
Judging from the picture the singer posted on Twitter and LittleMonsters.com today, it looks like there will be some sort of monster pit for special fans, a two pronged catwalk, and a construction on stage to house Lady Gaga’s amazing band. It looks like there is a grand piano on one prong of the runway as well, making way for some amazing stripped back performances. The galaxy backdrop looks pretty spectacular as well.
Lady Gaga has also revealed that the catwalk/runways are made of Lucite, so fans will be able to dance right underneath her via her Twitter:

Kermit the Frog talks about Lady Gaga

Disney’s Muppets Most Wanted marks the eighth theatrical release for Kermit the Frog, who got his start in show business nearly 60 years ago. The iconic Muppet graced the latest cover of Variety, before making a stop on the St. Patrick’s Day episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The Muppets have a policy, started by Jim Henson, of only doing interviews with their designated puppeteers. In the case of Kermit, that’s Steve Whitmire, who started voicing the character in the ’90s after Henson died. As a result, a phone interview with Kermit feels like a real interaction with the celebrity frog. Kermit spoke to Variety about Twitter, his relationship with Miss Piggy, working for the Walt Disney Co., and his Lady Gaga boxer shorts. Read below what he had to say about Gaga during the interview!
It’s very nice to meet you, Kermit.
Ramin, how are you my friend? I’m calling you from the swamp, so if my connection sounds a little wet, that could be why.
Who are some of your favorite people you’ve performed with?
It’s such a hard question. Some of those classic Hollywood stars that came along to do “The Muppet Show” were probably my favorites — people like Bob Hope and Danny Kay and Ethel Merman.
Who was the biggest diva?
I’m not going to give out any names, but her initials are M.P., and I don’t mean Mary Poppins.
How about Lady Gaga?
We had run into each other at the MTV Awards a few years ago, and always said we’d like to work together. I was just very happy that she thought of the Muppets to be part of this holiday special she did. I’d also seen those photographs where she wore that cloak made entirely of Kermit pelts. Those weren’t actual Kermit pelts. They were little Kermit toys.
Were you weirded out by that?
Oh, ’til I found out they weren’t real, yes. It’s odd to see yourself hanging all over a piece of clothing. However, I do have a Lady Gaga set of men’s boxers shorts, so it’s totally fine.
I didn’t know frogs wore boxers.
It’s one thing you don’t know about frogs. Normally, I don’t wear a lot of clothing, which is something I can get away being a frog. By the way, it makes getting through the TSA security much easier.
Lady Gaga has also joined forces with old pal Tony Bennett and the cast of The Muppets for a cheeky song entitled We’re Doing A Sequel, which is set to be released on iTunes today at midnight.

Lady Gaga rocks out Doritos #BoldStage

Sausage, vomit, inspiration, and talent over all. That’s what Doritos #BoldStage came with last night.
Lady Gaga kicked off the spotlight at South By Southwest in a typically memorable fashion. The pop singer began her appearance at Stubb’s BBQ on Thursday night during the annual music festival and conference by roasting herself on a spit like a gutted pig as her dancers basted her with barbecue brushes, and then things got really weird.
But it was not all about Gaga getting roasted on stage, or covered in vomit. She also took a moment right after performing Gypsy to dedicate the song to the tragedy that occurred on March 12th, when two people died and another 23 got injured at the SXSW in Austin, Tx saying: “I really want to dedicate this song to the tragedy of last night, because we are all just wandering the Earth trying to find each other.”
If you missed her incredible performances, you can now watch below the full show along with high quality photos.

Lady Gaga delivers keynote speech at SXSW

Announcing a new music video coming next week along with theartRAVE: The ARTPOP Ball Tour stage, Lady Gaga achieved one of her most amazing and honest interviews to date today, at SXSW in Austin, Tx.

The singer delivered her keynote speech, which was considered by MTV days ago as one of the most historic events in Gaga’s career and SXSW as well, not only for being the youngest keynote ever, but also for being the first woman in 15 years to keynote.
During the interview, Lady Gaga was asked about her performance at the SXSW Festival and she explained the concept behind it and behind her latest album ARTPOP. She was also asked about her new music video, as she announced it is ready to come out next week.
Finally, Lady Gaga also mentioned ARTPOP Act II. She said she chose not to put that into the system. She enjoys it with her friends and she loves it and maybe it will be released one day.
In case you missed it, watch Lady Gaga’s keynote speech at SXSW along with high quality photos below, as she talks about her #BoldStage performance, ARTPOP, Roseland, new music video, Katy Perry and more!

Lady Gaga appears on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Wearing a frilly outfit made out of coffee filters, Lady Gaga made an appearance on a special episode ofJimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday, ahead of her performance at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas.
The outfit, designed by Gareth Pugh, featured a ruffled dress, cape and giant matching hat complimented by platform shoes. She rode onto the stage in a pedicab.
During her appearance on the show, she discussed the rise of her music career and her love of emerging acts. But somehow, as it regularly seems to do, the conversation returned to her attire. “I am recycling,” she told Kimmel. “You can do anything with your crazy ideas if you put your mind to it.”

Lady Gaga is attending the Oscars with Donatella Versace

Guess who will be attending the Oscars this year? It's LADY GAGA, and she will be wearing a stunning dress by Versace, with the company of the Donatella Versace.
Lady Gaga sent an ARTPOP note earlier today to Donatella Versace saying “May this year be limited only by our imaginations. To another year I am happy to know and love you“, to which she replied “Thank you Gaga! Now I’m really in the Oscars mood. See you tomorrow!”
What about hosting ?

Well, there is nothing better than the iconic Ellen DeGeneres, which welcomed Lady Gaga several times to her T.V. show ''The Ellen Show''. She is returning after seven years to emcee the 86th Academy Awards, is an ideal choice, since she can handle sensitive topics with class but still be hilarious.

What’s the best way to bring eyeballs to the Oscars following last year’s divisive host Seth MacFarlane and the presence this year of tough-to-joke-about films like “12 Years a Slave,” “Captain Phillips,” “Philomena” and “Dallas Buyers Club”?
Chat time with Ellen, of course.
Sunday, Ellen DeGeneres, 56, returns after seven years to emcee the 86th Academy Awards, airing live on ABC at 8:30 p.m.
Though the popular talk-show host is a relief after “Family Guy” creator MacFarlane, she also reminds us of how Hollywood mixes with social issues.
At a time when the rights of same-sex couples are front-and-center in the U.S., DeGeneres’ coming out 17 years ago remains a watershed celeb moment.

2014 Oscar content will be available on a multitude of devices to complement the 86th Academy Awards, airing LIVE Oscar Sunday Mar 2 7e|4p on ABC.
